When you receive your plugs or 7cm potted plants, either pot them up or plant them out into their permanent positions. Water as needed, but take care not to overwater. For the best results, protect young plants from snails and slugs.
Chrysanthemum 'Roy Coopland' is renowned for its striking bronze flowers and impressive bloom size. The cultivar is favoured by gardeners and exhibitors for its vibrant colouration and substantial floral display.

Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots

  • Flower Type: Intermediate Decorative
  • Colour: Bronze florets shading to light greenish-yellow at the base, with paler reverse sides
  • Bloom size: Up to 15 cm diameter
  • Bloom Time: Late autumn
  • Height: approximately 1.2 meters
Cultivation
  • Pruning: Perform a single (pinching) between October and December to encourage branching and fuller blooms.
  • Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser during the growing season. Incorporate sulphate of potash in late summer to enhance bloom quality and stem strength.
  • Disbudding: For larger, exhibition-quality blooms, remove side buds to allow the plant to focus more on fewer, more substantial flowers.
  • Support: Due to its height and large blooms, staking is essential to prevent the stems from bending or breaking.
  • Watering: Maintain consistent soil moisture, ensuring drainage to prevent root rot.
Special Features Uses
  • Exhibition Quality: 'Roy Coopland' has been recognised in chrysanthemum shows, winning accolades such as "Best Vase in Show.
  • Garden Display: Its tall stature and vibrant bronze flowers make it a focal point in garden beds and borders in the late autumn months.
  • Cut Flowers: The substantial blooms and long stems are excellent for cut flower arrangements, adding a touch of elegance to indoor displays.
With proper care, 'Roy Coopland' will reward gardeners with its impressive blooms, making it a standout addition to any garden or floral arrangement.
