The ‘Kaiteri’ feijoa is a mid-season, self-fertile variety known for its smooth-skinned, medium to large fruit with an exceptionally sweet and aromatic flavour. Bred in New Zealand, ‘Kaiteri’ is a reliable and heavy producer, making it a fantastic choice for home gardens and orchards.
Fruit Characteristics
  • Flavour: Intensely sweet with tropical and floral undertones
  • Texture: Smooth, firm flesh with a creamy, juicy interior
  • Colour: Green skin with a hint of yellow when ripe
  • Size: Medium to large fruit
  • Harvest Time: Mid-season (April to May in New Zealand)
  • Storage: Stores well for a short period but best enjoyed fresh
Growth & Care
  • Pollination: Self-fertile, but yields improve when planted near another feijoa variety for cross-pollination
  • Tree Size: Compact and bushy, reaching 2–3 meters tall, making it suitable for small gardens or hedging
  • Soil & Watering: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil and benefits from regular watering during flowering and fruiting
  • Pruning: Minimal pruning required; light trimming after fruiting helps maintain shape and airflow
  • Frost & Wind Tolerance: Hardy to frost and wind, making it ideal for exposed locations
Best Uses
  • Fresh Eating: Scoop out the sweet, fragrant pulp for a refreshing snack
  • Smoothies & Desserts: Adds tropical flavor to smoothies, cakes, and fruit salads
  • Preserving: Ideal for feijoa chutneys, jams, and freezing
With its high productivity, exceptional flavour, and compact growth, the ‘Kaiteri’ feijoa is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a low-maintenance, delicious fruiting tree in their home garden.
