The ‘Queen Giant’ nectarine is a large, juicy, and flavourful variety known for its sweet pure white tender flesh. This tree produces large, vibrant, freestone nectarines with a smooth, fuzz-free skin and a rich, sweet flavour. Bred for its excellent productivity and large fruit size, the ‘Queen Giant’ is perfect for home orchards and commercial growers alike.
Fruit Characteristics
  • Flavor: Sweet, juicy, and mildly tangy with a fragrant aroma
  • Texture: Firm, but tender flesh that’s perfect for eating fresh
  • Colour: Cream to yellow with a red blush
  • Size: Large, with some fruits reaching up to 300 grams or more
  • Harvest Time: Mid to late season (January to February in New Zealand)
  • Storage: Best enjoyed fresh but can be refrigerated for a short time and is suitable for preserving
Growth & Care
  • Pollination: Self-fertile, meaning it does not require another nectarine tree for fruiting, but cross-pollination with another variety may improve yield
  • Tree Size: Medium to large, reaching 3–4 meters tall with a spreading, upright growth habit
  • Chill Requirement: Requires a moderate winter chill to ensure proper bud development
  • Soil & Watering: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil and benefits from consistent watering, especially during fruit set
  • Pruning: Prune regularly during late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and encourage healthy growth
Best Uses
  • Fresh Eating: Ideal for snacking due to its juicy and sweet flesh
  • Baking & Desserts: Perfect for nectarine tarts, cobblers, and crumbles
  • Preserving: Excellent for jams, jellies, and canning
  • Smoothies: Adds a sweet, fruity flavor to smoothies and beverages
With its delicious fruit, reliable production, and easy care, the ‘Queen Giant’ nectarine is a great choice for home gardeners and fruit enthusiasts, offering large, flavourful nectarines each season.
