Pear ‘Packham’s Triumph’ is a beloved heirloom variety, known for its sweet, juicy flesh and long storage life. Developed in Australia in the late 19th century, this highly productive pear tree is a favorite for both home gardeners and commercial growers due to its excellent flavour and versatility.
Key Features: Fruit: Medium to large, with a bumpy green skin that turns golden-yellow when fully ripe. The flesh is buttery, juicy, and aromatic, with a rich, sweet flavour.
Tree Size: Grows to 4–5 meters but can be kept smaller with regular pruning.
Sun Requirements: Thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6–8 hours of sunlight per day. Frosty winters will help improve fruit set.
Pollination: Partially self-fertile, but yields improve with a pollination partner such as ‘Williams Bon Chrétien’, ‘Beurré Bosc’, Precoce Morettini, Seckel, Winter Nelis, Taylors Gold, Nashi Hosui and Nashi Nijiseiki..
Harvest Time: Mid to late autumn, typically April–May in New Zealand.
Watering: Prefers consistent moisture, especially during fruit development. Ensure well-draining soil to prevent root rot.

Growing & Care Tips:
- Pruning: Prune annually in winter to encourage strong fruiting branches and good airflow.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced fruit tree fertilizer in early spring and again in late summer.
- Thinning: Remove excess fruit while small to encourage larger, high-quality pears.
- Harvesting: Pick when pears are firm and green, then allow them to ripen off the tree for the best texture and sweetness.
