Small-Leaved Lime (Tilia cordata) – A Graceful and Wildlife-Friendly Tree.
Mature Height 15–25m
The Small-Leaved Lime, also known as Linden Lime or Little leaf Linden, is a beautiful, deciduous tree admired for its graceful heart-shaped leaves, fragrant summer flowers, and strong wildlife appeal. Native to Europe and parts of Asia, this long-lived tree is a favourite for avenues, gardens, paddocks and parklands, offering seasonal beauty, shade, and nectar-rich blossoms loved by bees.
In early to mid-summer, the pale yellow, sweetly scented flowers bloom in clusters, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Linden honey, made from its nectar, is highly prized!
Small-Leaved Lime thrives in urban settings and tolerates pollution, making it a great choice for streets, parks, and gardens.
Thrives in full sun to partial shade.
Prefers moist, well-draining soils, but adapts to various conditions.
Regular watering when young; drought-tolerant once established.
Generally low-maintenance; can be pruned in late winter if needed.
