  • Facebook
Chrysanthemum ‘Mairehau Maid’ is a delightful cushion-type chrysanthemum which grows to the height of 50cm and will give you two flushes of blooms a season. When the first flush of flowers are spent then prune back to 10cm and a second flush of flowers will follow in March. Its flowers are typically soft pink making for a wonderful display in garden beds, borders, or potted arrangements.

Blooming Period: April to May
Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots.

Characteristics:
  • Flower Type: Decorative/Incurved
  • Colour: Deep rose-pink with subtle variations in tone
  • Bloom Size: 5 to 8cm
  • Bloom Time: December and March
  • Growth Habit: Upright with strong stems, ideal for cut flowers and display
Cultivation & Care:
  • Pruning:
    • January prune for shaping and strong branching
    • A light tidy-up in February to remove weak shoots
  • Fertilizing:
    • Use a balanced slow-release fertilizer like Novatec or Osmocote
    • Apply sulphate of potash leading up to flowering for improved bloom quality and color intensity
  • Pinching/Disbudding:
    • Early pinching encourages more branching
    • Disbudding (removing side buds) helps develop larger, more refined blooms
  • Support: Staking or netting is recommended to keep stems upright, especially in windy areas
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but well-drained to avoid root issues
Special Features & Uses:
  • Excellent as a cut flower, thanks to its strong stems and rich color
  • Works beautifully in floral arrangements, garden displays and potted colour
