Bloom Period December to April
When you receive your plugs or 7cm potted plants, either pot them up or plant them out into their permanent positions. Water as needed, but take care not to overwater. For the best results, protect young plants from snails and slugs.
Chrysanthemum ‘Muriel’ blooms her little heart out from December through January. Once the first flush has finished, give her a tidy prune, and she’ll happily reward you with a second round of flowers from March to April.
‘Muriel’ is an easy-to-grow cushion garden chrysanthemum, well-suited to both beginners and experienced gardeners. The plant photographed was disbudded, and the results were especially pleasing, producing larger, well-formed blooms.
With a stem length of 50–80 cm, ‘Muriel’ is tall enough for bouquets, yet compact enough to shine in pots on the patio or planted near the front of a garden border for a long-lasting splash of colour.
Blooming Period: December to April
Suitable For: Cut flowers, garden displays, and exhibitions
Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots

Blooming Period: December to April
Suitable For: Cut flowers, garden displays, and exhibitions
Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots
Characteristics:
- Flower Type: Pom Pom/Decorative
- Colour: Pink with hints of mauve undertones
- Bloom Size: Small (5cm when disbudded)
- Bloom Time: December to April
- Growth Habit: Can reach a height of 50cm to 80cm, but you can keep tipping it to create a smaller, dense bush, which I think looks amazing. Or leave to grow on for longer stems for cutting
- Pruning:
- Pinch in early summer (October) to encourage bushy growth and more blooms, or leave to grow longer stems for cut flowers.
- Fertilizing:
- Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser (e.g., Novatec or Osmocote) in spring
- Use sulphate of potash in late summer to enhance flower colour and longevity
- Pinching/Disbudding:
- No disbudding is needed, but when done creates a beautiful stem to use in cut flowers
- In the picture is one I did disbud and had allowed it to grow on for taller stems. I was very happy with the results.
- Support: Generally self-supporting, though light staking may help in windy conditions
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging
- Prolific bloomer
- Great for cut flowers, with a long vase life and delicate appeal
- Ideal for containers, borders, and cottage gardens, and the cutting garden, adding softness and texture
