Bloom Period December to April
When you receive your plugs or 7cm potted plants, either pot them up or plant them out into their permanent positions. Water as needed, but take care not to overwater. For the best results, protect young plants from snails and slugs.
Chrysanthemum ‘Salmon Mairehau Dainty’ is a charming cushion-type garden chrysanthemum, prized for its soft salmon-toned blooms and neat, compact habit. An early-flowering variety, it rewards growers with two flushes of flowers each season. The first display appears from December to January. Once flowering finishes, cut the plant back to around 15 cm above ground level, then feed and water well. This encourages strong regrowth and a second flush of blooms from late February through March. Plants typically reach 50–80 cm in height, making them ideal for garden borders, garden beds, or pots where a tidy, colourful display is wanted.

Blooming Period: December to March
Suitable For: Cut flowers, garden displays, and exhibitions
Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots
Characteristics:
- Flower Type: Pom Pom/Decorative
- Colour: Salmon to light orange tones
- Bloom Size: Small (5cm when disbudded)
- Bloom Time: December to April
- Growth Habit: Can reach a height of 50cm to 80cm, but you can keep tipping it to create a smaller, dense bush, which I think looks amazing. Or leave to grow on for longer stems for cutting
- Pruning:
- Pinch in early summer (October) to encourage bushy growth and more blooms, or leave to grow longer stems for cut flowers.
- Fertilizing:
- Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser (e.g., Novatec or Osmocote) in spring
- Use sulphate of potash in late summer to enhance flower colour and longevity
- Pinching/Disbudding:
- Disbudding produces a nice effect, especially for cut flowers.
- Support: Generally self-supporting, though light staking may help in windy conditions
- Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging
- Prolific bloomer
- Great for cut flowers, with a long vase life and delicate appeal
- Ideal for containers, borders, and cottage gardens, and the cutting garden, adding softness and texture
