Our Chrysanthemum Plug Plants are supplied in a 3cm x 5cm coir and peat plug.
When you receive your plugs, either pot them up or plant them out into their permanent positions. Water as needed, but take care not to overwater. For the best results, protect young plants from snails and slugs.
Chrysanthemum ‘Theresa’ is a charming, early-blooming cushion variety that bursts into colour outside of the traditional autumn chrysanthemum flowering. It provides a cheerful and reliable display that brightens borders, pots, and cutting beds.' Theresa often rewards growers with two blooming flushes in a single season — after the first flush, simply prune back quite hard and water well to encourage the plant to set up for its second round of blooms.

Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots
Characteristics:
  • Flower Type: Decorative
  • Color: Pink
  • Bloom Size: 4cm to 7cm, depending on cultivation and care
  • Bloom Time: Mid-to-late autumn (December to March in New Zealand)
  • Growth Habit: Bush, with stems ideal for cutting and display. Height 80cm
Cultivation & Care:
  • Pruning:
    • January cut back to encourage a second flush of flowers
    • A light tidy-up in February to remove weak shoots and improve airflow
  • Fertilizing:
    • Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer (e.g., Novatec or Osmocote) early in the growing season
    • Use sulphate of potash in the weeks leading up to flowering to enhance bloom quality and stem strength
  • Pinching/Disbudding:
    • Pinching early in the season encourages a well-shaped, bushy plant
    • Disbudding (removing side buds) helps produce larger, show-quality blooms
  • Support: Requires staking or netting to keep stems upright, especially in exposed locations
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but well-drained to avoid root rot
Special Features & Uses:
  • Excellent as a cut flower, with a long vase life and graceful bloom structure
  • Adds a sophisticated touch to garden borders and mixed floral plantings
