Our Chrysanthemum Plug Plants are supplied in a 3cm x 5cm coir and peat plug.
When you receive your plugs, either pot them up or plant them out into their permanent positions. Water as needed, but take care not to overwater. For the best results, protect young plants from snails and slugs.
Chrysanthemum ‘Walnut Queen’ is a rich, warm-toned beauty treasured by growers for its generous flowering and luxurious autumn presence. This cultivar produces full, rounded blooms in deep walnut-bronze shades, often accented with soft copper or burnished gold highlights as the petals mature.

Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots
  • Flower Type: Spider
  • Colour: Deep walnut-bronze shades
  • Bloom Size: Up to 14 cm when grown as a disbud
  • Bloom Time: Autumn flowering
  • Growth Habit:  Reaching up to 1.3 meters, necessitating staking for support
Cultivation
  • Pruning: Perform a single (pinching) between October and December to encourage branching and fuller blooms.
  • Fertilising: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser during the growing season. Incorporating sulphate of potash in late summer enhances bloom quality and stem strength.
  • Disbudding: For larger blooms, remove side buds to allow the plant to focus energy on substantial flowers.
  • Support: Due to its height, staking is essential to prevent the stems from bending or breaking.
  • Watering: Maintain consistent soil moisture, ensuring good drainage to prevent root rot.
Special Features
  • Exhibition Quality: With proper disbudding, 'Walnut Queen' produces large, show-quality blooms ideal for flower displays and competitions.
  • Garden Display: Its tall stature and vibrant colour make it a focal point in garden beds and during the autumn months.
  • Cut Flowers: The substantial blooms and long stems are excellent for cut flower arrangements, adding a touch of golden elegance to indoor displays.
