Our Chrysanthemum Plug Plants are supplied in a 3cm x 5cm coir and peat plug.
When you receive your plugs, either pot them up or plant them out into their permanent positions. Water as needed, but take care not to overwater. For the best results, protect young plants from snails and slugs.
Margaret is an early-flowering Chrysanthemum that blooms twice in a season. The first flush appears from December through to January. Once flowering has finished, prune the plant back to around 15 cm above ground level and allow it to regrow for a second flush of blooms from February to March. Quite often, this second flowering produces cleaner, more refined colour, thanks to the cooler night temperatures later in the season.

Blooming Period: December to January, and then a second flush in March to April
Suitable For: Cut flowers, garden displays, and exhibitions
Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots

Characteristics:
  • Flower Type: Pompon/Decorative
  • Colour: White with butter yellow centre
  • Bloom Size: Small to medium (typically 5 cm to 8cm in diameter)
  • Bloom Time: Mid-to-late Summer (December to March in New Zealand)
  • Growth Habit: Upright with strong, slender stems and multiple blooms per stem. Height is 80cm to 1m
Cultivation & Care:
  • Pruning:
    • Tip in early October to encourage multiple stems
    • Light tidy-up in November to remove weak shoots
    • Cut back approximately 15cm above ground level after the first flowering
    • All Chrysanthemums are to be pruned back in late autumn after the season's flowering is finished
  • Fertilizing:
    • Balanced slow-release fertiliser (e.g., Novatec or Osmocote)
    • Additional potassium (sulphate of potash) before flowering to enhance bloom quality
  • Pinching/Disbudding:
    • Pinching early in the season encourages multiple blooms per stem
    • Minimal disbudding is needed
  • Support: May need light staking or netting to keep stems upright
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but well-drained
Special Features & Uses:
  • Excellent as a filler flower in arrangements, adding texture and contrast
  • A low-maintenance chrysanthemum that produces abundant blooms suitable for the home garden and bouquet work.
