When you receive your plugs or 7cm potted plants, either pot them up or plant them out into their permanent positions. Water as needed, but take care not to overwater. For the best results, protect young plants from snails and slugs.
Chrysanthemum 'Pink John Wingfield' is a robust and vigorous cultivar celebrated for its abundant sprays of medium to large, pink-lavender blooms. As the flowers mature, their shape becomes more pronounced, adding to their visual appeal.
When cultivated as a disbud, the flowers can reach sizes of 15 cm or more, making them a striking addition to floral arrangements.

Blooming Period: March to April
Suitable For: Cut flowers, garden displays, and exhibitions
Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots

Characteristics:
  • Flower Type: Reflex decorative
  • Colour: Light rose-pink
  • Bloom Size: Medium to large, depending on cultivation methods
  • Bloom Time: Mid-to-late autumn (April–May in New Zealand)
  • Growth Habit: Upright with strong stems, ideal for cut flowers and display
Cultivation & Care:
  • Pruning:
    • January prune for shaping and strong branching
    • A light tidy-up in February to remove weak shoots
  • Fertilizing:
    • Use a balanced slow-release fertiliser like Novatec or Osmocote
    • Apply sulphate of potash leading up to flowering for improved bloom quality and colour intensity
  • Pinching/Disbudding:
    • Early pinching encourages more branching
    • Disbudding (removing side buds) helps develop larger, more refined blooms
  • Support: Staking or netting is recommended to keep stems upright, especially in windy areas
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but well-drained to avoid root issues
Special Features & Uses:
  • A classic show bloom, often grown for exhibitions
  • Excellent as a cut flower, thanks to its strong stems and rich colour
  • Works beautifully in floral arrangements, garden displays and a great exhibition bloom
