$9.00 - Chrysanthemum Plug Plants supplied as a 3cm x 5cm coir and peat plug.
$13.00 - Chrysanthemum plant supplied in a 7cm pot
When you receive your plugs or 7cm potted plants, either pot them up or plant them out into their permanent positions. Water as needed, but take care not to overwater. For the best results, protect young plants from snails and slugs.
Chrysanthemum ‘Chiffon’ is a charming cultivar admired for its abundant blooms and soft, subtle colouring. When disbudded—removing surplus buds to concentrate the plant’s energy—individual flowers can reach an impressive 18 cm in diameter, making it a standout in both the garden and on the show bench. Loved for its elegance and reliability, Chiffon remains a firm favourite among chrysanthemum growers.
Petal colouring can vary with conditions: when grown in shadier areas, blooms develop a soft shell-pink tone, while plants grown in full, all-day sun take on warmer apricot hues with slightly darker centre petals.

Blooming Period: March to April
Suitable For: Cut flowers, garden displays, and exhibitions
Growing Options: Can be grown in the ground or in pots

Characteristics:
  • Flower Type: Intermediate incurve, resulting in flowers with a full, rounded appearance.
  • Colour: Soft pink ivory petals with apricot depending on the season, hints of yellow to the centre.
  • Bloom Size: Medium to large, depending on cultivation methods
  • Bloom Time: early to mid autumn (March - April in New Zealand)
  • Growth Habit: Upright with strong stems, ideal for cut flowers and display. Height 1.3m
Cultivation & Care:
  • Pruning:
    • January prune for shaping and strong branching. Cut back to 15cm above ground level.
    • A light tidy-up in February to remove weak shoots
  • Fertilizing:
    • Use a balanced slow-release fertiliser like Novatec or Osmocote
    • Apply sulphate of potash leading up to flowering for improved bloom quality and colour intensity
  • Pinching/Disbudding:
    • Early pinching encourages more branching
    • Disbudding (removing side buds) helps develop larger, more refined blooms
  • Support: Staking or netting is recommended to keep stems upright, especially in windy areas
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but well-drained to avoid root issues
Special Features & Uses:
  • A classic show bloom, often grown for exhibitions
  • Excellent as a cut flower, thanks to its strong stems and rich colour
  • Works beautifully in floral arrangements and garden displays
